Thanks to everyone responding to our "Ask Max Cavalera A Question" article. Between the website and social media sites, there were tons of responses by the fans. Below are a few of Max's answers, enjoy!
I was just wondering, what’s your favourite Ice cream flavour?
DULCE DE LECHE BY HAGAN DAZ. IT’S AN ARGENTINAN DESERT FLAVOR. DELICIOUS!
“What's the funniest thing that has happened to you on tour?”
WHEN GLORIA’S DAD SAID, “WHO’S THIS SLAYER? WANT ME TO POP HIM IN THE MOUTH.”
“What do you think about Latin American metal? Is it (done) in the correct way or what do you think it needs?”
IT NEEDS MORE EXPOSURE. MANY BANDS COME FROM THERE AND THEY HAVE A GREAT CROWD!
“Do you find your songwriting style/methodology is different from Soulfly to Cavalera Conspiracy, or do you usually tackle it in the same way? How involved are the other band members in the songwriting process typically?”
I DO MOST OF MY WRITING WITH MY GUITAR, A DRUM MACHINE, AND A 4 TRACK RECORDER, BUT THE OTHER MUSICANS COLLABORATE IN THE STUDIO.
“What places gave you and your band(s) the best response to your shows? Were there any bad responses, and if so where and why?”
BEST REACTION IS PROBABLY RUSSIA, AND ARGENTINA. WEIRD CROWD’S NORMALLY IN HOLLAND (TOO STONED!).
“Were you really aware that you were changing metal history when you were sign by Roadrunner back in the day? When did you guys realize that you made a two thrash classics with Beneath The Remains and Arise?”
NO, WE WERE JUST TRYING TO MAKE MUSIC. WE DIDN’T KNOW THEY WILL BECOME THRASH CLASSICS, BUT WE WORKED REALLY HARD ON THOSE ALBUMS.
“I remember you saying Queen was one of the reasons you decided to go into music, if the original band were still together today would you have collaborated?”
YEAH! I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED QUEEN, OLD AND NEWER. THEY WERE AN AMAZING LIVE BAND.
“Have you ever considered, or (been) asked to score or write music for a videogame?”
NOT YET, BUT I WOULD LOVE THE OPPORTUNITY. MAYBE SOMEDAY!
“To date, what is your favourite song you have written? And which song do you feel is the heaviest off Blunt Force Trauma?”
MY FAVORITE SONGS ARE REFUSE/RESIST AND EYE FOR AN EYE. THE HEAVIEST SONG ON BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA IS TORTURE. PURE THRASH VIOLENCE!
Hellgoose D Lux
“Bit of a geeky question...I am a massive fan of your guitar work and was wondering about the set-ups you used in amps, effects and guitars on the new record?”
I USE PEAVEY 3120 AMPS, AND A DIGITAL WAH PEDAL.
“I love that you speak for the native people of Brazil...do you have connections to any of the Amazonian tribes, like the people you guys stayed with while making Roots?
I STAYED IN CONTACT WITH THE XAVANTES FOR AWHILE. THEY EVEN HELPED ME TRY TO FIND A BAND NAME IN 1997.
Also, how do you find time for family when you are so busy cranking out badass tunes for us? Do any family members travel with you on tour?”
OUR SONS, RICHIE AND JASON, COME ON THE BUS AND HELP OUT DOING MANY DIFFERENT THINGS. ALSO, ZYON AND IGOR COME TOO, AND NORMALLY THEY JAM TROOPS OF DOOM WITH CAVALERA CONSPIRACY WHEN THEY ARE NOT IN SCHOOL.
